Description
The installation cap is a
temporary moulding designed to be used in any installation where
end-lifting of the floorcovering due to moisture transference
from the adhesive to the wood floorcovering is a concern.
The installation cap is installed over the ends of the wood
floorcovering and nailed into the subfloor or concrete using
headless brads along the rear of the profile. This creates
a "cap" that holds the floorcovering planks in the adhesive bed
until the adhesive cures thereby eliminating end-lifting. The profile should also be left installed until the carpet is
ready for installation to protect the edges of installed
hardwood from damage in the construction environment. The
profile is not intended for use as a permanent transition and
should be removed prior to carpet installation. The
current design allows just enough room for a 3/8" engineered
board to be slid underneath the cap. If the installer
chooses to install the Installation Cap after the floor has been
laid, the profile should fit securely over the floorcovering and
place downward pressure on the board. In either case, the
installation cap works to reduce the amount of costly callbacks
related to end-lifting and doubles as protection for the ends of
the floorcovering from damage during appliance delivery and
other construction trade traffic throughout the different
construction phases. Best of all, if the installation cap
is carefully removed, it is reusable many times over,
thus lowering the cost to mere pennies per job. When compared to
the cost of a callback for end-lifting, the savings can be
substantial.

Installation
-
Proper
installation is detailed in the image at the top of this page
-
Be sure the lip
covers the surface of the flooring - this profile
is designed to protect the edge of the floorcovering from
damage during the construction process and prevent the ends
of glued-down boards from lifting off of the adhesive
-
Secure the
installation cap to a wood-based subfloor (Advantech,
particle board, plywood, etc) using standard 1 1/4" blued
nails or headless brads spaced approximately every 12 - 18"
-
Secure the
installation cap to concrete using 11/16" x 1" or greater
concrete nails or headless brads spaced approximately every
12 - 18"
-
Nail only
through the solid base of the profile, do not nail through
the cutout section as this will hinder the floorcovering
from fully inserting beneath the installation cap or could
result in damage to the floorcovering by nailing through the
face of the board
-
When installing
multiple pieces of the installation cap, be sure to align
the multiple pieces to create a straight and continuous line
from end to end; a chalk line is recommended for even
positioning.
-
If installing
the installation cap along multiple edges of a floor, use a
miter saw to cut the ends of the installation cap at a 45°
or 22.5° angle.

different product profiles or determining product
suitability for a particular application.
